Area 01 · Education
A child who is falling behind is telling us something about their environment.
Education
The problem
When a child struggles in school, the explanation offered is almost always about the child. Not attentive. Not motivated. Not trying.
Very rarely does anyone ask what the child walked in with that morning. Whether they slept. Whether they ate. Whether there is light at home to study by, or space, or quiet. Whether anyone at home can help with the work, or is themselves able to read it. Whether the classroom is a place where asking a question feels safe.
A child cannot concentrate their way out of hunger, noise, fear or exhaustion. And no amount of effort compensates for an environment that was never set up for learning.
What we do
Who it is for
Children in their school-going years, the teachers who teach them, and the families and institutions around them.
Layers this touches
Work with us on this.
If you run a school, a community organisation or a CSR programme and want to change the conditions rather than run an event, we would like to hear from you.
